Sustainable and Resilient South Pasadena

Building a sustainable and resilient South Pasadena means prioritizing our environment and infrastructure to create a healthier, more vibrant city for future generations. A major focus will be completing an inventory of native and heritage trees across the city, updating the tree ordinance, and maintaining our urban canopy to earn the prestigious "Tree City USA" designation. This effort aligns with the ongoing implementation of our Climate Action Plan, which aims to reduce our carbon footprint and meet state and federal environmental standards. Additionally, we'll move forward with the five-year citywide plan for street maintenance and repairs while upgrading essential water and sewer systems to ensure reliable, eco-friendly infrastructure.

In tandem with these initiatives, the creation of more green spaces will be prioritized by completing two new pocket parks, the Berkshire (dedicated to Dr. Beatriz Solis) and the Grevelia, set to break ground in mid-October 2024. The final design of the Westside Reservoir, which I championed in 2021, will also be completed, with construction scheduled to begin after 2025. These projects collectively strengthen our city’s resilience against environmental challenges, securing a sustainable future for generations to come.
